The large metal sign over the business at 364 East Court St. proclaims it to be the Lafayette Restaurant ... even though the lettering on the blue awning says it is “Lori’s.”

Folks who were around Kankakee in the 1960s or earlier remember when the Lafayette Restaurant sign was located on an imposing, four-story building in the 200 block of South Schuyler Avenue. That building was the Lafayette Hotel, which was, for many years, the city’s finest and most popular lodging for travelers.
